Article in Digital Photographer

Digital Photographer Magazine

I’ve written an article that appears in this month’s Digital Photographer magazine (issue 46). It’s titled "Shooting Stage" and is billed as "Daniel Boud leads a masterclass in how to be a succesful live events photographer".

The magazine is published in the UK, so i’m not sure if you can find it in Australia. It spans 5 pages, has about 2500 words and includes 6 of my photos. It looks rather nice and should be helpful to anyone who’s keen to photograph concerts.

The article is based around the tips for concert photography i published earlier in the year but is expanded quite a lot with advice on how to prepare, how photo passes are acquired, how you can make money from your photos and a gear guide.

There’s lots of other great articles, interviews and reviews in the magazine so it’s well worth buying. For those that can’t find a copy, i’ll be publishing my article here sometime in the next few weeks over a series of blog posts.

On a personal note, i’m rather proud of this. Like the idea of having a gallery show, the idea of me writing a "masterclass" that appears in a magazine for professional photographers is quite bizarre. I’ve not had any photography training, so my knowledge is through experience, talking with other photographers and my own reading. I’m very thankful to everyone who’s helped and encouraged me.

  1. That’s awesome Dan! Now if this doesn’t land you a full-time photography job (if you were so inclined), I’d be pretty surprised.
And the best knowledge is always gained through experience in any profession imho.

  2. That, my friend, rocks. A lot.
Now.. I’m sure I’ve seen a copy or two of that magazine in Border’s.. Would cost something like $20 though..

  3. mate – that is rad!
i normally pick up a copy of this magazine as they regularly have really useful content… i wonder if the news agent will be impressed when i tell him i know one of the writers for the magazine 😉
let me know if you need some copies bought over here in london and sent to you… i think that it is only a few quid here???

  4. Found a copy of the mag at lunch time – only £5. Great article and a good magazine as well.
The question is, how much longer do you have to wait before someone wants to pay you lots of money to do what you enjoy 🙂

  5. not to give dan a big head or anything – but the article and photos really are top notch. The pics look awesome in print. Everyone should at least spend 15 minutes in the newsagent reading it!

  7. The most important thing for a musician is the ear. Do you know what the most important thing is for an artist/photographer? Yep – you guessed it! You’ve got the eye Dan….for capturing stuff with a camera……..A person could do 100 photography courses and still not get it right. Excellent pics……I love flicking through ‘em……good luck with the exhibition!

  8. I’ll spend some time reading it in the newsagency. Might hide behind the shelves and copy some of the tips down too.
What are you going to achieve next? One can only guess…
