As i wrote previously, i was the official photographer for The Great Escape Festival two weeks ago. It was so much fun – both the festival itself and the job of taking photos.
It’s a three day festival, which makes for lots of photos. First up is pictures from Day 1.
The Vines were a popular act as the sun set on the main stage. As usual Craig trashed the stage during the last song.
I was excited to see my perennial favourites Wolfmother headline Day 1. They’re still playing the same tunes they were at the little venues of Sydney 3 years ago, but they translate well to a big stage and the crowd adores them.
One of the great things about a AAA pass is getting to shoot the angles you can’t normally get from the pit. I love getting the audience in the same shot as the performer.
Kaki King was in a world of her own, head down playing guitar. She finished her song, saw me and gave me a cheesy thumbs up.
One of the best things about The Great Escape is the wide range of non-musical entertainment on offer.
See more photos from Day 1 of The Great Escape.
Kaki King looks a lot like Lisa Loeb (wow, say that 5 times fast!). Your festivals always look so much more interesting than the ones we have here…the crowd definitely gets into it way more. Fat chance to see fans wandering around here with those sunglasses on…if a band can even get people to shuffle their feet and dance a little it’s a huge victory.
And Andrew is getting hairier and hairier by the photo!
Love your photos. Hope day 2 and 3 of the Great Escape will be up too!
great crowd shots, i love how you always capture the vibe of the shows π
Great shot of Andrew Stockdale. Is it in his contract that he must only be lit in blue lights?
Looking forward to more day 2 and 3 shots.

Brilliant captures of an awesome day. Looking forward to days two and three.
the ferris wheel halo rocks.
Wow! I was lucky enough to be there (no helicopters for me though) too. After straining to see myself in the Ben Kweller crowd I’ve given up. I’m in there somewhere.
Unfortunately I’m not much of a photographer, but I mananged to luck out on a couple of shots (Ben Kweller and Bob Evans, mainly) so I left content! They’re in the pics part of my myspace page if you have time to kill…
