Coming to America

Almost a week now till i depart for America.

The itinerary looks like this:

  • March 5-8 : San Francisco
  • March 8-19 : Austin
  • March 19-21 : Las Vegas
  • March 21-29 : New York

So excited.

Austin, TX

The primary reason for the trip is to attend South by Southwest (SXSW). I’ve got myself a platinum badge and photo pass – so i can go to Interactive, Film and Music events. SO MUCH cool stuff to see and do.

I went in 2005 and had a ball. Some coverage here. It was SXSW that kicked off my music photography from amateur with a pocket camera, to published music photographer. When i arrived in Austin in 2005 i bought my first SLR camera, the Canon Rebel XT (aka 350D) and i proceeded to shoot like crazy. Shots i took ended up in SPIN, Australian Rolling Stone, a 3 page spread in Hot Press as well as various street press.

It was a very lucky break for a complete amateur.

Boys and their toys

Being the web nerd i am the interactive conference should be excellent – lots of bloggers and like minded geeks. Then of course a deluge of live music. There’s almost 2000 bands in town. From Iggy Pop, to Bloc Party to whatever NME is hyping this week, to some band you’ve never heard of but will love to bits in 6 months time.

Apart from Austin i’m also taking in some of my favourite other American cities to catch up with good friends and explore.

  8. Austin! So jealous… can you let us know if Kinky got in as Govenor and can you try and pinch one of those “Kinky ’06” party posters that were going around when I was there? So annoyed I didn’t get one at the time.

  9. Enjoy SXSW Dan, I wish I could go but school is in session during that time. Afterwards you should come up here to NY and check out some of the awesome concerts goin on. Wolf & Cub, Ratatat, Do Make Say Think are all up here this month and there are plenty of awesome shows all over the city in the coming months. I’d definately check ou the Cake Shop Record Bar @ 152 Ludlow for awesome concerts (hardcore style floor shows), or Webster/Irving, etc. etc.
