Wolfmother wins a Grammy

Wolfmother - 2005

Wolfmother won a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance the other day.

That’s pretty wild that the little band i watched rise the ranks of the Sydney music scene beat acts like Tool and Nine Inch Nails for a Grammy.

Wolfmother

I’ve written about Wolfmother a lot on my blog, from the first time i saw them play, to gigs in London, Byron Bay and the Big Day Out. Lead singer Andrew commented here once and a shot of him i took graced the cover of Guitarist Magazine. They’ve been around as long as i’ve been taking music photos.

Like Australians tend to do when someone gets succesful, we criticise and try and bring them back down to earth. But i’ve always been an unabashed fan. They do what they do remarkably well and i’m glad they’re getting the rewards for it.

  1. Despite what appears to be noise on the first shot i loooovvve it. It just looks so classic and old school šŸ˜€

  2. I’ve never been a fan of Wolfmother – I don’t loathe them, but I’m just not really into what they do – but good on them for conquering the States. Anytime an Aussie band does well overseas (or even at home) we should be congratulating them because it resonates well to all Australian music and in turn boosts the industry.

  3. its hard to believe its the same little band we saw at candy’s that mother’s day!

  4. Yeah, i remember them playing ‘Woman’ and dedicating it to their mums in the audience. Three years later that same song wins a Grammy.

  5. I must confess I’m not a fan of their music, however you’ve got to really respect what they’ve achieved and lets be honest they achieved it on their own merits and not by some write-up in a UK music mag..congrats to Wolfmother..

  6. I just saw them last night in Berlin. My god, they were unbelievably good, I’ve never seen a band rock that hard, and oh those guitars… awesome. I wasn’t a fan, in fact I’d only heard a few tracks on the radio and mtv, never got round to hearing the album. I’ve seen the light now.

  7. Well, you of all people should definitely be happy that Wolfmother got the Grammy. Good on them. Sentiments to you for following a band that pretty much drove you into your passion. šŸ™‚
