It’s been a while since i’ve had a serious case of nerves before shooting a gig, but they kicked in before shooting Arcade Fire at the Enmore Theatre the other week.
It wasn’t that i was anxious about the photos, it was the culmination of years of anticipation for finally seeing the band play live.
I discovered the band when i downloaded the song “Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)” from one of those New York music blogs. I knew they had something special going on and i fell in love with their Funeral album which made my list of fave things in 2004.
Hanging about in the photo pit before the band came on, i couldn’t help but take a peek at the set list. I saw it was to start with “Wake Up” leading into “Keep The Car Running”, two of my faves. I was giddy like a schoolgirl.
The first three songs passed in a blur and all of a sudden us photographers were being escorted out of the venue. Thankfully we were allowed back in once we coat checked our cameras and Will and I came back in to enjoy the rest of the show.
Despite a bit of a lull in the middle of the set while they played some of their lesser known songs, they finished triumphant with a run of anthems leaving everyone beaming their way into the night.
On another note, it was a bit of a blogger clusterfuck with Sean, Amanda, Wayne, a polaroid, Paul, Angus and no doubt others in attendance.

Fantastic shots Dan, easily one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Glad you were able to stick around for the whole gig!
I saw that at the BDO and a sideshow and hands down, one of the best bands I’ve ever seen live.
Yes, it was show of the year for me, every other band I see this year have to pull off something incredibly magic and spectacular to beat them.
hehe I said the same thing when that lot, Geoff from Get Big Little Kid and the Sandwich Clubbers were all standing around with us after the show.
It was kinda crazy.
Awesome night and you got some just as awesome pics!
I’ve been lucky enough to see them 3 times over the last year now, they’re an absolute joy as was LCD Soundsystem and Rufus Wainwright! Has been a great couple of weeks.
You may have seen this; it’s Arcade Fire playing a a guerilla gig in Paris, one in a lift an another in the crowd that they’ve just played to it’s amazing! The web site is great…

Excellent photos, and an incredible band to watch live. Did they have all the screens and the neon poles?
Did they mention it was going to be last shows for years, because that’s what they said in London and New York.
Oh yes. They broke my heart in all the right places. I’d waited for years as well mister, and isn’t that a feeling when the music hits and the grins all spread and you get lost, lost, lost…
And of course, awesome fucking shots.
x
Ack…see me trying to hide from your camera?
Such an amazing gig. Maybe even better than the first time I saw them.
Loved the shots – a great reminder of some mind blowingly amazing gigs. We were lucky enough to see the two Melbourne shows at The Forum and it was beyond exceptional. Hope the news about these being the last gigs for years is wrong.
