The rather splendid Laneway Festival rolled around again this weekend past. I was fresh off the plane from Thailand and flung forth into the throngs of indie kids partying in the heart of the city.
Some of the acts performing included Feist, The Presets, Bridezilla, Dan Deacon, Stars and Cool Kids.
You can see all my shots in the Laneway Festival 2008 gallery.
Love the shot of BSS under the canopy of trees. Captures the beauty of the setting. And this band is just something else, always a magical experience.
Hi Dan,
Remember me? How’s life going? Nice to know that you finally make it as a professional photographer.
Dan, I will try to say hello next time at a show. It’s sometime hard because I am normally stuck in the thronging masses. I really admire your work, btw.
hi dan, so i just won a fasterlouder competition that means i’m taking backstage photos of the midnight juggernauts on friday.
this is all well and good except for the fact that OH MY GOD I HAVE ONLY SHOT MAYBE FOUR SHOWS EVER AND MOST OF THEM WERE AT RINKY DINK VENUES NOT THE TIVOLI AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN A BACKSTAGE DEAL THAT *WILL* BY AGREEMENT REQUIRE INTERNET PUBLICATION AFTERWARDS AND WHAT IF I FUCK IT UP PLEASE.
..just nervously wondering if there is anything i’d need to know in advance, and as you have shot them both live and otherwise i thought i’d ask you.
to be honest i figure it is simply a matter of doing the exact same thing as usual but i believe that one way to calm the anxious beast is to research.
How was the lighting for Feist? It was just terrible at the Brisbane show. I don’t know how any of the photographers there got good pictures of her. Yours came out beautifully as always though.
Also, all the ones of Stars are incredible. You captured their energy perfectly.
Meg – congratulations, that’s a great opportunity. The Juggernauts boys are lovely, so you’ll be in good company. If you’re shooting backstage it’s usually a “fly on the wall” type deal. You don’t want to get in peoples way. That said, you ought to introduce yourself and smile and get some candid snaps.
Katie – the lighting for Feist’s set was abysmal. Luckily it was ok for Broken Social Scene. That’s when i snapped those pics of her.
Ah!! Feist would of been amazing. Your shots are fantastic, such a incredible setting to be shooting in. Well done
