Last Wednesday night, just after a storm ripped through Sydney, Youth Group played a show on the deck of a boat to launch their new album The Night is Ours.
The boat was the Cape Don, permanently moored at Balls Head next to where Youth Group recorded the new album. I took some pictures of that process, including the band on board the boat last year.
The album launch gig was lit rather poorly, so i was content to just get moody atmospheric shots.
The new album is out on June 26th. This is the video for first single ‘Two Sides’.
Poorly lit, atmospheric shots? I find it ironic that there’s a blackboard with “We Light The Way” on it. 😀
The words ‘We Light the Way’ was the slogan of the long-gone Australian Lighthouse Service. The heritage ship MV Cape Don was part of that service and served lighthouses all around the Australian coast between 1963 and 1980, after which lighthouses were automated. The people restoring the ship are trying to keep alive the memory of the people who kept Aussie sailors safe for nearly 200 years. They fell in love with Youth Group’s music during the recording of their latest album and offered to host the launch of the album on board.
