It was more photographing of those small Sydney bars a few weeks ago shooting this story for Tiger Airways inflight magazine. It was my first job for them, so i was happy to get the cover and a seven page feature.
I spent a Saturday evening jumping between Sticky Bar, Pocket, The Falconer and Name This Bar. First photographing a portrait of the owners in the empty bar, then returning later in the night to capture the bar in full swing.
Nice work Dan. If you don’t mind me asking, what light setup were you using for the portraits?
It was a mix.
The Falconer one chosen for the mag was just Canon speedlite bounced off the roof, but this one was a studio light with a soft box.
Name this bar portrait was a studio light with soft box.
Pocket bar was an off camera Canon Speedlite in a lumiquest softbox.
The Sticky portrait was a softbox on the front, and a snoot from the side.
Normally i’d be more consistent, but a mix of factors transpired against me.
Thanks for that, appreciate it.
nice collection of photos of the small bars in Sydney although Ching-a-lings didn’t seem to make the cut. we’re still a long way behind Melbourne though in terms of small bars but one day we might get there รขโฌโ but i doubt it. ๐
