Shooting U2 last night was the stuff dreams are made of. It started pouring with rain just before the show started and cleared up almost straight after our three songs were up. The photographers were quite far back from the main stage, lucky i hired the 70-200mm lens. Here’s a quick sample of shots.
Doesn’t rain suck sometimes! It does look cool backlit though. Are you shooting again tonight?
Great show last night, I got absolutely soaked
Yes, i’m shooting again tonight! Totally unexpected, but the promoter called this morning to say we could shoot again because of the rain last night. Personally i think the rain adds to the photos, but i’m not going to pass up an opportunity to photograph U2 again.
how good were they!?!?! nice shots dan. can’t wait to see more. I thought the rain was awesome! There’s something about standing with tens of thousands of people watching the best band in the world in the pissing rain. Humbling or some such. Truth be told, glad it didn’t keep raining all night though!
Great shots – the rain adds so much to the effect, and is quite a fitting way to capture Bono
and here‘s my review!
fantastic shots, Dan. i had so much fun last night. that rain was indeed a godsend just when it was getting a little too hot in the crowd. Elmo – your review is great.
How good was it! I’ve now been Bono-fied.
Here’s a little present for you and Elmo…
Even from the rafters you could feel the magic.

Oh Dan! Wasn’t it TOTALLY MIND BLOWING! Your photos are pretty amazing there too, you lucky bugger. Bestgigever!
What did you use over your camera to protect from the elements Dan? self made bag? Great shots, I agree the rain definitely adds something…
Thanks for the comments folks.
Dean – to tell you the truth i used nothing to protect my camera. I was out there thinking ‘stuff it, i don’t care if my camera rusts, i will get these shots’. 🙂
That said, i was using a Canon L series lens, which is supposed to be weather sealed and very hardy to the elements. It also has a large lens hood to protect the glass from the rain. So i knew the lens ought to be fine.
As soon as the third song was over i found cover and spent some time drying off my gear. Everything survived fine. I’m running out of the nine lives my camera has already survived.
That’s great to know, thanks Dan, I have that lens and have yet to use it in rain…
Cheers.
Dan, back in the days when you were a fresh faced little U2 fan did you ever fantasize about doing this?
What days are you in Melbs? I’m out of town til Sun nite. Would be fun to catch up for a quick beer/coffee if there’s time.
I was there and took some photos myself, but NOTHING like the great ones you got. What a fantastic concert!
