Triple J announced yesterday that Young and Restless won this year’s Unearthed competition. That’s so exciting and totally deserved. It means they get a slot on the Homebake bill and you can be sure i’ll be there to capture it on camera.
I had a feeling they’d be in with a good chance. Dools was an early champion of the band and numerous Triple J people have lavished them with praise. But to beat out a field of over 6000 acts is rather astonishing.
The first night i saw them i knew they were an exciting band. One photo i took that night featured prominently in the 3 Songs. No Flash gallery show, printed big at 45×30 inches. It was the only large shot in the show to sell, to my dad no less.
Apart from being a stellar band a lot of praise must also go to Jerry their manager and founder of whothehell.net. He’s helped steer them in the right direction, plus he asked me to do their press shots. The man knows talent when he sees it! 😉
I’ve not posted these studio shots before, but the news of the Unearthed win prompted me to go back and look through my photos to dig some out.

Yeah a big congrats goes out to these guys who’ve done some extensive touring and always perform 110%.
So Dan, when they record their first LP surely you’d be asked to do the cover (if they have their pics on the front) or at least in the booklet?!
I don’t know if they’ve thought that far ahead.
They have a talented fella who does most of their artwork, they might go down the illustrative path with him.
