Here’s some promo photos i took of Ground Components a while back. They’re being used in the promotion of their new album, An Eye for a Brow, A Tooth for a Pick. I noticed the one above was used in Rolling Stone and i believe a collage of pics also made it into the album artwork.
Some were taken at Luna Park, after their set at The Come Together festival, and some were taken at Blue Murder Studios.
About 15 minutes before the band arrived at the studio i was adjusting the big boom arm that holds the 1000 watt light. I loosened the arm and it came crashing down with a crunch on my hand. It made quite a gash in my finger and being the big wuss i am, i began feeling faint at the sight of my own blood. Thankfully i regained my composure (thanks Cybele!) and stopped bleeding (thanks Band Aids!) before the band arrived.
Another drama occured during the shoot as i was trying to rev up the boys. In the excitment someone stepped backwards onto the black paper roll we were using as a backdrop, it ripped and the whole contraption fell apart. No one was hurt, but several metres of paper were written off.
Despite the mishaps, the boys were a pleasure to photograph. A lovely bunch who i’d recommend you go see play when they’re next in your town.
that lead singer has kurt’s eyes *sigh*
Lovely photos, Dan! I work with Simon and he speaks highly of ye. Also – he and Joe both love The Veronicas “When It All Falls Apart” and the words “The Veronicas were a huge influence on the album” may have been uttered at one stage* so, you know, they’ve earned my eternal respect…
*Quite possibly in jest but still. Delightful lads. Three thumbs up.
