A friend of mine has just started a job at MTV and wants me to let you know about a film making type competition they’re running at the moment.
The One80Project is calling on creative types to film a 3 minute pilot and submit a script for a one hour drama. A panel of judges will pick two of the best to be turned into proper MTV funded productions. They’re quite keen on stuff that’ll translate well to mobile.
If you’re into that sort of thing it could be a good excuse to create something and get it in front of people’s eyeballs. Entries close 24th November.
It seems like an awful lot of work to do and not get paid for, but that seems to be the way to get your break these days. A bit like Tropfest, Portable Film Festival or 300 Seconds.
3 minutes to convey a decent 1 hour tv drama? That is tough. They should have opened up the genre to anything really.
And 1 hour drama doesn’t translate well to mobiles period. A few companies have tried and failed to generate a decent audience.
But kudos to them for giving aspiring filmmakers another opportunity to get heard
