I took some photographs at the Sydney launch of You Am I‘s new album Convicts last week. A stage was constructed in the courtyard of The Mint (next to Hyde Park Barracks) where You Am I played a classic set of tunes, mainly from the new album, but with some classics like Berlin Chair and Cathy’s Clown thrown in. The gig was being recorded to air on ABC TV later in the year.
The new album’s been getting good reviews with the Sydney Morning Herald writing,
"Album No.7 from the best and certainly most important Australian rock band of the past 15 years is pumping with more foot to the floor, garage rock than they’ve shown since the now classic mid-’90s pair of Hi Fi Way and Hourly Daily."
Tex Perkins played MC of sorts, dressing up in convict theme as the NSW governer.
See a whole lot more photos in the You Am I launch Convicts gallery.
