2007 – So far so good

Published in Brazil

Thanks to a Flickr user in Brazil i discovered my Foo Fighters picture was used in Rolling Stone Brazil.

It was quite a fortunate story with those shots. I took them for a local magazine, but i owned the photos. Then Foo Fighters management got in touch asking to purchase them, so of course i said yes.

They’ve since run in a number of magazines, including this example and also Rolling Stone Australia. They’ve joined the official press shots so i really have no idea where they end up unless people tell me.

This year already looks like it’s shaping up as a good one for photos. I’ve done band promo shoots for Kid Confucius and Bluejuice. And next week i’m very busy, shooting the Jack Awards nominations, The Big Day Out plus sideshows from Spank Rock and Diplo, The Killers and Hot Chip.

At this stage i’m also booked in for the Laneway Festival and going to be the official photographer for The Great Escape festival.

Not to mention a trip to Texas for South by Southwest

  1. Nice one Dan, need an assistant on any of those shoots? 😉
Anywhere near giving up the day job?

  2. Not if i want to keep up the lifestyle to which i’ve become accustomed. The photo jobs are starting to pay a bit more though which is good. But the expenses are quite high too. I’m thinking of upgrading my camera soon.

  3. Oooh, sweet! Working trip to the US, or a holiday?
    PS> 5D + 70-200 will be heaven!

  4. The lineup for the Great Escape is pretty solid. Saw Bumblebeez at the Laneway festival, is that the same as 81? Are they still around?

  5. Gonna come down with a visitation in London anytime soon?

  6. Hey Dan when you go to SXSW can you store me in your luggage. I’ve been to Austin once, just a great music city, you are very lucky.

  7. Ta for the kind words everyone.
Talitha – it’s primarily a holiday to the US but i plan to shoot as much as possible while i’m there.
Mark – i’m pretty sure Bumblebeez are the same as Bumblebeez81. Perhaps the legal problems with the name were ironed out.
Ayesha – i’d love to go back to London, but with an expensive US trip looming it looks unlikely this year.

  8. awesome news. who pays for the plane tix and accommodation to SXSW? you or through work?

  9. The SXSW always sounds so tempting to check out. A pricey trip no doubt but surely you could crash on people’s couches during your stay.
Which new camera are you thinking of getting? The 5D or are you switching over to the dark side with a Nikon?

  10. Well you work hard and are great at what you do, gotta expect that you’ll get some rocking opportunities..

  11. Ouch! Can’t wait for some pics shot with it. Let us know how much different it is than shooting with the 350D (other than the full-frame).

  12. Shoot, I should’ve kept reading the comments.. So you got the 5D, how is it??
I’m about to give up one of 1DmkIIn’s for sale, just cant justify having 2 of them anymore when I’ve got a wedding to save for..

  13. I’ve just ordered the 5D, will hopefully have a chance to put it through it’s paces next week.

  14. I am SO glad that you kept the ownership of your photos 🙂 I cant wait to see where you end up with your photography in the future, its exciting dan

  15. see you at the great escape then! it was awesome last year.
