Sydney radio listeners would be familiar with the melifluous voice of Richard ‘The Love God’ Mercer as he hosts love song dedications on Mix FM.
Part of his shtick is that no one know what he looks like, so when Time Out was doing a profile on him i had to photograph him with an obscured face.
He told me that the anonymity thing isn’t something he instigated, it was the suggestion of his one time radio producer. But it’s something that’s stuck, so he may as well keep it up.
We talked about the fact that these days radio hosts are expected to be multi-media personalities. He’s somewhat unique (and old fashioned) in the way you wont see has face plastered on billboards or as a talking head on TV like every other radio DJ.
He was a lovely chap, very easy going with a natural voice quite different to his considered, husky on air voice.
I picked up the rose on my way in to the radio studio and the head of it snapped off on the way up in the lift. If you look closely you can see the stem is sticky taped on.
I love Richard, he’s a master!
love the sticky tape!
