The Ghosts, Dance with Voices and Infadels are playing at The Gaelic Club this Saturday night and i’ve got 3 double passes to give away.
I’ve written about The Ghosts before, they’re young, good looking and make exciting music. Big Stereo likes em too.
According to the NME, Dance with Voices make music that’s "camper than a poppers session with Sir Robert Baden-Powell, they sound like the Pet Shop Boys at their mid 80’s peak". I just found that quote on an NME clipping from the band’s myspace which i discovered also includes one of my Bit by Bats photos. Sweet.
Infadels i’m rather unfamiliar with, they’re from the UK and part of the dance-rock scene. Kind of like Hard-Fi. Find mp3s on the hype machine.
To win one of the three double passes to the Saturday night gig simply leave a comment on this post. I’ll pick the winners at random on Thursday evening.
I’d be going myself but i’ll be in Melbourne this weekend seeing U2 again.
UPDATE:
Congrats to winners Johnny, Maxine and Ivan. Enjoy the show.
Me! Pick me! Surely my number is up, considering the last thing I won was a number 16 size chicken as third prize in a raffle when I was about 8…….
I thought that was you on the front page of the SMH. Nice work dude!
….Who was that old guy on stage with the Australian flag draped around him? he he he
dan, i love your website and your photos but…
why all the ghosts love? everyone i talk to is like ghosts! they rule! theyz are so goods at MUSAK! THE GHOSTS ARE MY HEROZ
why? granted, i only heard the two demos on myspace and haven’t seen them live yet but i dunno
they’re so unoriginal. there just copying what the cure did 20 years ago.
why can’t people realise that there is more to music than this fucking electro/new wave revival bullshit. If people wanna listen to GOOD new electro, they should get some junior boys, not a justice or a sneaky soundsystem record. if they want to listen to good new wave they should go listen to disentergration. Im sure the guy from the ghosts hasn’t even heard it.
why can we go forward in this country! WHY! WHWYEHAHEHAYSHEHAYEYY!! WHY!
sorry. it’s just so hard to write music that’s not what everybody wants. music that is new. if bands just took time to flesh out ideas rather than just spitting riffs that we’ve heard before we’d have so many great bands in sydney. hell, in australia. bands like dappled cities fly.
has anyone noticed that in australia a band will release an alright ep, then maybe an album and be completely forgotten. what is with that? why is our pop scene the same as our indie scene? what is with that?
sorry dan. nice photos. good work.
Nice comment Ivan, feel free to vent anytime.
I guess it’s different strokes for different folks. Not everyone’s going to like the same stuff, it doesn’t mean it’s bad, just not to your tastes.
It’s good to be sceptical of hype, but i think it’s also unfair to hate on something just because it’s popular or hyped. Often there’s good reason for it.
Now you’ve commented you’re in with a good chance to see The Ghosts play on Saturday. Then you’ll be able to judge for yourself.
Hey Dan,
Long time listener first time caller.
Great U2 shots, what night did you think was better? Photo wise and concert wise?
And may I throw my hat in the ring for these tickets..
Cheers,
Johnny
Welcome Johnny.
Photo wise i think Friday was the better u2 gig, i think the rain made my photos more interesting, and more memorable for me.
Concert wise i think the band played better on Saturday and had a slightly better set list. It was great to hear them play Desire.
Yeah the ghosts, I think i’ll just listen to The Cure’s ‘seventeen seconds’ thanks. That ghost’s song is an appropriation (i’m not going to say ripped off) of ‘the forest’… without the electronics.
BTW, what happened to the rest of the Belles Will Ring photos?. Dan?
